#FridayFitness - Inches not Pounds

Hi flowers!

You didn't see me this time last week, and I'm sorry for that. After finding yet again, that I hadn't shifted anything, I was having an incredibly low body day.
I would be the same today if it wasn't for something my mum said to me.
At the beginning of this series, you may remember that I not only told you my start weight, but also my measurements. Again, this week I have stayed the same. 229lbs seems to be a plateau for me; I've lost 5 lbs and now I'm struggling to get over this hurdle.
I did decided to whip out my tape measure again this week though. Mum had told me not to stress too much about the number on the scales, something I had been doing, and she also told me to keep track of my measurements. To my surprise, I have lost what I would say is a pretty surprising amount. Underneath is the measurements I started off with, and this weeks measurements in purple.

Weight - 234 lbs 229lbs -5lbs
Upper arms
(r) -  42cm  39cm  -3cm
(l)- 39cm 37cm  -2cm
Thighs
(r) -  71cm  70cm  -1cm
(l)- 73cm 74cm  +1cm
Bust - 106cm 101cm  -5cm
Waist -90cm 85cm  -5cm
Hips - 129cm 125cm  -4cm

Looking at the results, I'm not feeling as low as I would have if I hadn't of measured. I'm actually feeling pretty good about it all.
Liam and I have started making weekly meal plans, only shopping once a week for the food we need for those meals. So far, it seems to be working and we've nearly gone an entire week without ordering a take-away. Which I'm ashamed to say, will probably be the first time in roughly 8 or 9 months. Funnily enough, we think it might not only help our waistlines, but also our bank accounts too. Bonus!
Cycling wise, I'm struggling. My problem knee joints are playing up something rotten, and I'm only managing to do 15-20k twice a week at the moment.
I'm hoping as the weight starts to fall off again, my knees will feel better and I can up my game again.

Keep your eyes peeled for a follow up review on the running shoes I received next week.
I've been living in them.

  1. Hey Sam, well done on the inch loss! I'd recommend taking your measurements every 2 weeks (there often isn't enough change to do it once a week). I'm always more chuffed with inch loss than lbs lost.

I feel you on the knee pain. I used to get horrendous knee joint pain and lower back problems but I found that as the weight came off, I started to hurt less.

    Slowly slowly wins the race!

Keep at it and you will see results, maybe not straight away but it will happen!

  2. Congrats on your inches lost! I agree that measurements are often a better way to track changes in your body :)
Knee pain is quite common with cycling, check that your bike fits you properly and is the right size. Maybe you could try swimming or something else if that doesn't seem to help :)
Good luck with keeping at it, you're doing great!
